This antique vessel is a Spanish Colonial / Navajo Tin and Leather Canteen, likely dating to the 19th century. Characterized by its small, disc-shaped body, it is constructed from tin with a notable blue enamel finish, which is often partially worn or patinated over time. The canteen is encased in a protective leather or rawhide wrap around its edges, featuring a simple leather cord or strap for carrying.While larger canteens of this style were traditionally used for water, smaller versions like this one were frequently used by Navajo people to carry tobacco.
