A Wonderful example of an Ioway Plains Indian Horse Head Effigy Dance Board, carved wooden form with inset square mirror and lead inlay, surrounded by ornamental brass tacks.
Measures 14" tall x 7": wide x 1" Thick. (35.5cm x 17.8cm x 2.7cm)
Ca: 1880
Native plains tribesmen frequently traded for small glass mirrors and inserted them into carved wooden frames. Often, they ornamented the frames with brass tacks (another popular trade item) Metal inlay, or paint. They carried mirrors such as this in dances.
