Navajo Double Saddle Blanket Ghost (White) Center
Regular price
$1,150.00
This vintage Navajo (Diné) double saddle blanket, likely dating from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920), is a striking example of a "ghost" or white center design. Hand-woven from natural, undyed handspun wool, it features earthy tones of brown, ivory, and variegated grey. The central white panel is framed by a bold dark border decorated with rhythmic white diamond motifs, a geometric style common in utilitarian Navajo textiles of the Transitional and Rug periods. Double saddle blankets were designed to be functional, they could be folded in half to provide extra padding for a horse. Because they were woven to be exceptionally durable and hard-wearing, many historical examples transitioned from ranch use to become highly collectible pieces of abstract art for modern homes, often displayed as small rugs or wall hangings
