This Spanish Colonial silver cross pendant is a significant religious artifact, likely dating from the 17th to 18th century. Hand-forged from coin silver, its design features flared arms with trefoil-like terminals and a distinctive central ring with four open apertures, surrounding a raised central boss. Small, stamped circular accents and a symbolic sunburst or floral motif at the base further characterize its rustic, "peasant" style of colonial religious folk art. Such relics were commonly worn by missionaries, settlers, or Indigenous converts in regions like Northern New Mexico, serving as powerful symbols of faith, protection, and personal devotion during the early colonial era.
